Clip Wings?

Post by O'Fischl_Farm » Fri Jul 21, 2017 5:32 am

Not sure yet on if I'll be having the Mallards for much longer... but about when do they start experimenting with flight? Does anyone know? I'd like to not let them escape and run around the neighborhood. So far they haven't tried anything and stay happily in their pen - but it's not enclosed overhead. Should I consider clipping their wings soon? They are fully feathered and beginning to change voices - around 4 months old at this point.

I have no idea. Maybe Jennifer knows. I would assume you could clip them when the feathers grow in.

It looks like the ducks will be going to their new homes today! I don't *need* to know now, but if someone has the answer, I'll be happy to learn!

Wings can clipped at any time once the wing feathers are done growing in, to my knowledge. As long as the feather shaft no longer contains blood, it can be safely cut.
